Queer Comedy of Errors

Back for Debauchery

Balling. Boffing. Getting laid and making love. Its all sex. And there’s so much to say about sex. After its sell-out season at Auckland’s Basement theatre, A Mulled Whine Productions is bringing screwball comedy sensation Mating in Captivity to titillate and challenge the most liberal city in Aotearoa: Wellington.

Vicious satire and millennial angst meet in this hilarious bedroom farce by Oliver Page.

Mating in Captivity brings together some of the most inspired young creatives working in New Zealand right now. Starring Milo Cawthorne (Deathgasm, Pork Pie, Ash vs. Evil Dead), Frith Horan (Cool Behaviour, Better Best Album Party, Auckward Love) and Arlo Gibson (Shortland Street, upcoming feature film Mega Time Squad), and with design by Ronnie Livingstone. Another radical and relatable comedy with a dream team from A Mulled Whine (WMBADx: Idea Worth Spreading, Discharge is Rotten to the Core, Fire in the Meth Lab).

In Wellington, Mating in Captivity is hopes to fall in lust with its ideal audience. A city with a vibrant queer culture, thriving theatre scene and a public sure to adore the uproarious sexual politics, physical comedy and general silliness of this sensational and cinematic show. It’s whip smart, it’s funny, it’s about sexual subtext and you can’t spell subtext without butt-sex.

You don’t really know what you like until you try. — “I loved that f*cking show from beginning to end.” – Tom Sainsbury

“A truly modern day romp” – Theatre Scenes

“Mating in Captivity is fun, naturalistic farce” – NZ Herald
