PGDIT Added To Offerings At Auckland Institute of Studies

Auckland Institute of Studies (AIS) is pleased to announce the approval of the new Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGDIT) by NZQA.

The programme will begin running in May this year and has been designed to fill the global skills shortage that has been recognised in the IT sector.
As a result, graduates will be highly employable, and with the PGDIT being only one year in duration, it is expected to be a popular choice for those wanting to upgrade their skills and open doors to employment.
Students will have the opportunity to enter the IT industry at higher-than entry-level positions. In addition, the advanced technical skills provided by the PGDIT specialist topics ensure graduates are prepared for success in any of these career paths.
The three specialist topics available are:
• Information Systems
• Networks and Security
• Software Development
Internship, Research and Industry Project Pathways
The above specialist topics can all be completed via any one of three pathways:
• Internship Pathway includes an internship consisting of 15 hours a week for 26 weeks totalling 390 hours
• Research Project Pathway caters for those students wanting to pursue research based higher qualifications
• Industrial Project Pathway includes a six-month IT project for a New Zealand company
Dr Michael Watts, AIS Academic Head of Information Technology Programmes and highly regarded IT researcher says:
There are recognised skills shortages within New Zealand and internationally in terms of Information Technology. The PGDIT has been designed to fill those shortages.
Furthermore, many students after studying a Bachelor or Graduate Diploma in the field of IT want to continue on to study at postgraduate level, to challenge their knowledge and see how far they can go with technology.
