“Bike the bridge” kicks off Zero Carbon Act Cycle Tour

Press Release – Generation Zero

Generation Zero kicked off a cycle tour which will go from Auckland to Wellington starting with the “Bike the Bridge” event on Sunday 18th February. The cycle tour is the first of a number of initiatives that Generation Zero has planned before the start of the government’s official consultation on the Zero Carbon Bill in May.

The five person cycle crew will take 12 days to cycle down the north island, stopping for conversations about climate change along the way. They will be welcomed by a large crowd of supporters on Parliament lawn when they arrive down in Wellington on March 1st. “We’re braving the elements and biking through the likely path of ex-cyclone Gita to highlight the fact that climate change is here and we need to act now,” said Zero Carbon Act Spokesperson James Young-Drew.

“The Zero Carbon Act is vital to safeguard our climate, not just for the future but for today. We are launching our tour at “Bike the Bridge” to show that while the problem is global, local communities can come together and push for solutions.”

“Over the next few months we will talk with communities all over Aotearoa, New Zealand because all of us need to work together to guarantee a safe climate, for us and those coming after us. We want everyone to be involved in generating solutions for the climate and environmental problems we are facing today, that’s the only way we will succeed” “The Zero Carbon Act is New Zealand’s Act and we need everyone to be part of the solution. ”
