A summary of the weekend’s activity at the Surf Life Saving Northern Region’s beaches this weekend.
Weekend Summary

It was an extremely busy weekend for incidents around the Auckland area, with a considerable number of rescues on the West Coast on Saturday 13 January.Up and down the west coast (Muriwai to Sunset) Volunteer clubs extended patrol hours due to the dangerous conditions caused by an strong swell and the evening heat.

Conditions were hard to manage but the Volunteers went above and beyond to keep the public safe.

· Muriwai had 14 rescues and 15 assists as well as 3 major first aids, they also extended their volunteer patrol till 7pm to cope with the above-average visitor populations that evening (head count of 1260 on beach/300 in the water at 6pm)

· Karekare also had a mammoth day: 9 rescued and 30 assisted.

· Sunset also had high visitor numbers and performed 1 rescue and 9 assists.

· Orewa had 3 major first aids

Our Support Services roaming Jetski (Support 1) performed 3 rescues and 2 assists. And performed 92 preventative actions involving 1000 people.
