Minister pays tribute to health sector honours recipients

Health Minister Dr David Clark has congratulated and thanked recipients of New Year Honours for their service to the health sector.

“This New Year, some outstanding individuals have been recognised for their efforts working to care for and improve the health of New Zealanders.

“I am particularly pleased to see Rangimarie Naida Glavish become a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. It is deserved acknowledgment for her tireless service to Māori and the community.

“Ms Glavish has made a huge contribution to Māori health, and is currently Chief Advisor Tikanga Māori with the He Kāmaka Waiora, Māori Health, for the Waitemata and Auckland District Health Boards. She has fought hard to ensure appropriate cultural support for Māori patients – work that I know has made a real difference to many people’s lives.

“I’m also pleased to pay tribute to Hon. Annette King, who becomes a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

“Annette is a force of nature and a force for good. As Health Minister between 1999 and 2005, she oversaw the introduction of the current District Health Board system and championed action on smoking and obesity. Her record of public service over many years is second to none.

“All New Zealanders rely on the health system and those that work so hard in it. As Minister of Health, I am delighted to see official recognition of the efforts of some of the leading figures in the health sector,” says Dr Clark.
