Finalists announced for the New Zealand Top Student Awards 2017.

The New Zealand Top Student awards celebrates exceptional students currently attending tertiary institutions around the country. Four finalists in six award categories will take part in a final assessment day on the 6th of September to claim a share of the $6,000 in cash prizes up for grabs.

31 August 2017, Auckland: The 2017 New Zealand Top Student Awards, has attracted tertiary students from universities across the country to compete for awards in the fields of Accounting, Arts, Business and Finance, Digital & Technology, Law and Science & Engineering. Finalists will compete in an assessment day on the 6th September with the hope of being crowned Top Student in their chosen field.

The 24 finalists represent the University of Auckland, Victoria University of Wellington, University of Canterbury, University of Waikato, Massey University and University of Otago.

“The successful finalists represent strong all-rounders” said Seren Wilson, Principal Consultant at Talent Solutions, who co-ordinates the selection process for the awards. “While academic achievements are important, the selection process places equal emphasis on aspects like work and volunteering experience, communication skills, extra-curricular activities and awards and scholarships received”.

Miah Dixon, Account Manager at NxtStep, a sponsor of the awards, cited the opportunity to engage in psychometric testing and a best practice selection process, as a particularly compelling aspect for lots of applicants. “There are not many opportunities to practice a graduate recruitment process until you experience the real thing, so the Top Student Awards offers a great learning experience for students who apply”.

Students undertake a mixture of individual and group assessments at the assessment day. The winners in each award category will take home a $1,000 cash prize, sponsored by one of five employer-sponsors.

The New Zealand Top Students Awards 2017 is proudly sponsored by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Deloitte, Accenture, Auckland Council, Talent Solutions, Testgrid, Vieple and NXTStep.
