Penthouse to Sponsor Ring Girls at WBO Heavyweight Fight

Press Release – Penthouse Club Auckland

The Penthouse Club Auckland announces sponsorship of the “Ring Girls” at WBO Heavyweight Championship boxing bout between Joseph Parker and Razvan Cojanu on Saturday 6th May.

Ring girls first rose to prominence after a 1965 edition of “Ring Magazine” ran a photo of a Las Vegas model holding a sign at a boxing match. The scantily clad women were originally intended to attract spectators and enhance the entertainment factor, creating a Vegas-like spectacle out of the brutality of boxing showcased. In time, fight promoters adopted the practice, which continues to this day, of including ring girls to add glitz to their events.

“Today, ring girls are part of any boxing event, and their presence at a high profile fight provided us with the ideal platform for us to brand the round cards and remind people about our entertainment offering at the Penthouse Club in Auckland.” said C J Davis, Manager, The Penthouse Club Auckland.

The role of a ring girl is an important one, taking a specific route around the ring, ensuring they are visible from each and every angle and holding the round number placard high reminding thousands of event spectators, on this occasion at the Vodafone Events Centre in Auckland, and also 15 million global television viewers, how many rounds have been completed and how many rounds remain for their hero to fight.

“The feminine contrast of a glamorous ring girl against the backdrop of the sweaty masculinity of Parker and Cojanu fighting it out certainly adds to the entertainment factor.” he added.

Tickets are still available for the fight at and the party will continue afterwards at the Penthouse Club Auckland, where the magazine comes to life at 13 Gore Street. Cover charges apply.
