Call to Save 20 continues to have cut through

Watercare’s call for Aucklanders to Save 20 continues to have cut through. Yesterday, the city consumed a total of 409 million litres of water which was 10 million litres less than the Monday [13 March] following the ‘Tasman Tempest’ and an astounding 54 million litres less than the Monday [6 March] before the extreme weather event. The daily target is 400 million litres or less.

Chief executive Raveen Jaduram says he is delighted by yesterday’s result: “The response we’re seeing from Aucklanders to our Save 20 message is heart-warming. We’re a big city and yet we’re proving that in times of need, we can come together and do our bit to preserve the health and wellbeing of our diverse community.”

The company continues to encourage Aucklanders to reduce their water use by 20 litres per day, using a wide variety of mediums to keep the message top of mind. Currently, there are VMS boards located in high-traffic areas carrying the Save 20 message. People are also being informed through information with their bills [Watercare bills around 20,000 customers a day]; posters in businesses, hotels, recreational facilities, libraries, schools and early childhood centres; daily website updates; and social and mainstream media.

Watercare’s large water users are receiving frequent updates on the situation and are being reminded of the need to reduce their water usage as much as practicable.
