It’s where business gets done: EMEX 2014

It’s highly anticipated across New Zealand. It only happens once every two years. It’s where business gets done. It attracts the biggest names in engineering, manufacturing, machinery, electronics and technology. It’s EMEX, and it’s back in 2014 from 27 to 29 May at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland.

“The response from visitors and exhibitors has been fantastic,” says EMEX sales manager Mike Lust. “More than 35% of exhibitors are new to EMEX, and registrations from industry professionals for free visitor passes are growing in leaps and bounds. Everything’s just taking off, which fits perfectly with this year’s theme: Where New Zealand Manufacturing Innovation Takes Off!

One company that lives and breathes innovation is Eurotec Limited. A New Zealand owned and operated company, established more than 25 years ago, it is actively involved in refrigeration, HVAC, electrical and instrumentation.

“We source from greatly respected manufacturers who are leaders in their respective fields,” saysChris Farmer. “Our team is highly qualified and experienced in their various areas of expertise, and are always on hand to offer knowledgeable assistance across all the areas of business we are involved in and fully support the variety of products we sell. We are further able to provide complete custom made systems from our Control Panel Solutions business unit, a division of Eurotec Ltd.

“At EMEX 2014 we will be exhibiting many products. Tom Aldridge and his team from our Instrumentation & Measurement business unit will have a range of products on display, with many from Testo, a German manufacturer of high quality test equipment. The range includes thermal image cameras, flue gas analysers, temperature and humidity test instruments and data loggers.

“Tom is a Level 1 qualified thermographer, so he can offer his expert advice when looking to select the right thermal image camera for your specific application. Tom and his team are highly knowledgeable on the full range of Testo instruments, so visit our stand at EMEX to discuss your specific requirements.

“As well as selling instruments, we also offer after sales service and calibration for not only our products, but also other brands in instrumentation. This service includes thermal imager calibration.

“The Electrical business unit is headed up by Shaun Nelson and, with the support of his team, will be showcasing a wide range of industrial products for applications including pressure, level, temperature and motor control. We also supply audible and visual warning devices, crane pendant controls, foot and limit switches and control panel accessories for heat and cooling.

“The European manufacturers represented include Trafag and KSR Kubler from Switzerland, Alre and Benning from Germany, Benedict from Austria, Relpol from Poland as well as MAC3, Giovenzana, Texelco and Alfa from Italy. With years of combined experience from the electrical team, we are on hand to offer our expertise in selecting the correct product for your application.”

Jakub Fiedler of Pacific GSM says his company will also have a lot for visitors to see and learn.

“We’ll have a wealth of great equipment and products on our stand. These will include GSM control and monitoring devices, and many Jablotron product including the revolutionary Jablotron 100 security automation system, a breakthrough back-up circulation pump, GPS monitoring with an operation cost under $5 per month, and a wireless and BUS temperature detector which transfers all into Jablotron cloud.

“We’ll also be showing the many advantages of the free web self-service My Jablotron cloud for remote access, the GSM desktop phone Essence with free cloud service, and the GSM camera for automation, security and monitoring with free online cloud.”

Security and safety is also on the minds of the good people at HazTec, especially the safety of staff handling dangerous goods at your workplace, says Shelley Nankivell.

“Few employers would deliberately put their employees at risk but sometimes good intentions don’t quite make it into reality and ‘oops’ an accident has occurred. The intention of being ‘just in time’ has become ‘too late mate’. Enquiries and Court defences can be hugely time-consuming, emotionally draining and alarmingly expensive. Massive fines, prison and/or shut-downs could follow if it is found that all reasonable care has not being taken by the employer.

“Common reasons we hear for non-compliance include ‘We’re too busy’; ‘It’s too complicated’; and ‘It’s too expensive’. HazTec can help. At EMEX 2014 we’re offering a free Hazardous Substances Health Check. If you visit our stand and tell us what chemicals and gases you have on your premises, in just 10 minutes we can do a quick confidential assessment of any compliance issues, and provide a no obligation estimate for HazTec to undertake your HSNO test certification.

“We demystify HSNO regulations and explain the requirements in plain English. We then apply them accurately and practically, according to your specific needs. With 28 years’ experience we have assisted businesses all over New Zealand who store, transport or handle hazardous substances to meet their training and certification obligations.”

DMG Mori Seiki Australia will be exhibiting two machines, says Ben Heywood.

“The DMU70 is a five axis milling machine is based on the successful universal milling machine DMU 50 and combines proven technology with a new machine size. Spindle speeds of up to 18,000 rpm, rapid traverses of 24 m/min and the optional tool magazine with 16, 30 or 60 pockets guarantee economic machining of individual parts or small series. The cross slide design with ribbed cast iron components in combination with the machine base made of polymeric concrete offers a maximum of stability. The optional swivel rotary table is integrated into the machine base. Thanks to its large flange diameter the swivel rotary table is very rigid which significantly increases the precision and surface quality.

“The new universal lathe NLX2500Y700 (milling and Y axis specifications) offers high accuracy, high rigidity and high capacity of cutting and at the same time achieve cost-effectiveness. This new series has excellent cutting abilities and machine accuracy equivalent to that of our best-selling NL series which has already sold over 10,000 units. Detailed analysis has resulted in the optimization of the previous model allowing even better reliability in the Mori Seiki X-Class.”

EMEX sales manager Mike Lust says this years’ spectacular show centrepiece will be a New Zealand designed and built carbon fibre composite helicopter manufactured in Dairy Flat by the Composite Helicopter Co.

“This is a high-tech exciting machine which has already had export orders from military agencies in the Northern hemisphere, and one lucky visitor will get a flight as part of the show prize draw.

“There’s a great deal on offer for industry visitors through knowledge gained from exhibitors, new insights and learnings picked up during the impressive seminar programme. There’s an impressive list of other prize draws on offer such as the change to win a Ford Transit Custom SWB valued at $51,000, and 2degrees prize draws promotions.

Many hundreds of trade visitors have been challenging their online gaming skills in the lead up to EMEX 2014. The EMEX website contains a custom built helicopter flight game giving the industry a fun glimpse into what they can expect to see at the event, and a leader board tracking visitor and exhibitor best scores That’s running right now at” says Mike

There is strong industry support for EMEX 2014 says Mike, and seminar topics that will provide a great deal of discussion. “Topics in planning include: innovation strategy, the economy and how it affects manufacturers, supply chain, retention of manufacturing in New Zealand, and market research and marketing. This really is the prime industry event, with the EPMU, IEDA and Metals NZ all confirming their support and promotion for member engagement to get involved at the event.”

EMEX 2014 is on from 27 to 29 May at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland. Industry professionals wanting to visit EMEX can register for free entry on the website at
