Armed men fail in bid to rob security guard outside bar at Kelston shopping centre

Waitakere Police are investigating the attempted aggravated robbery of an Armourguard van which occurred at 10am on Wednesday outside The Korner Bar, situated at the Kelston Shopping Centre.

Two armed offenders presented a pistol and single barrelled sawn off shot gun at the security guard who was returning to his van.

The security guard managed to secure himself inside the van before the offenders reached him. They attempted to gain entry to the van but were unsuccessful.

A getaway vehicle, which was being driven by a third person, was used, which was a Black Subaru Forrester REG: FYA372. This vehicle was later recovered by Police parked on Clayburn Road, Glen Eden.

Police have obtained good CCTV images of the offenders in their clothing.

Offender 1 is described as wearing:
• Red stadium jacket with white sleeves with logos on the front left breast and right sleeve
• Black balaclava
• Grey gloves
• Carrying a sawn off single barrelled shot gun with a wooden stock

Offender 2 is described as wearing:
• Black hooded jacket
• Black gloves
• Black pistol
• Black balaclava

Waitemata Police seek assistance in identifying suspects in an attempted armed robbery of an Amourguard van outside “The Korner Bar”, Kelston at 10 AM on Wednesday. A stolen Black Subaru Forrester REG: FYA372 was used to commit the offence and was later recovered on Clayburn Road, Glen Eden.

Detective Steve Norris of the Henderson CIB, Phone (09) 839 0630, is leading this investigation and he requests that anyone with information contact him.
