At about 5pm tonight a nine-year-old was struck by a car on Massey Road in Mangere. Hey suffered critical injuries and has been taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries are described as life threatening.

At this stage the casue of the crash has not been determined, and the Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

As a result of the crash, Massey Road between Buckland and Roberston Roads will be closed to traffic until about 7:30 pm while an analysis of the scene is completed.

Drivers affected by the road closure are asked to exercise patience.
