Woman struck by train after wheelchair gets stuck on tracks at Morningside

Press Release – New Zealand Police
At about 9.05am this morning a woman in an electric wheel chair was struck by a freight train at the Morningside Rail Crossing.

Initial reports indicate that the wheelchair got stuck crossing the tracks.

Several people came to her aid and tried to get her clear of the approaching train.

The woman has been taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries. A person who was trying to help has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Auckland Police are investiagting and will provide more detail later.
