Auckland movie is number one for its first week in NZ release

News from NZFC
The new Auckland movie Mt Zion has topped topping the New Zealand Box Office for its first weekend.
The weekend’s success combined with an opening day on Waitangi Day of more than $200,000 takes Mt Zion to nearly half a million dollars at the box office in its opening week.

“Once again, I take my hat off to the whole Mt Zion team and congratulate them on this exciting achievement,” says New Zealand Film Commission Chief Executive Graeme Mason. “Mt Zion has been very well-received and it’s great to see audiences turning out to see the good work for themselves.”

The film, set in Pukekohe, stars Stan Walker, Temuera Morrison, Miriama Smith, Troy Kingi, David Wikaira-Paul and Darcey-Ray Flavell-Hudson.

MT ZION is written and directed by Tearepa Kahi, who drew inspiration for the story from his own family background. The film features original music in a uniquely Maori take on Marley’s reggae. Walker’s recently released single ‘Take It Easy’ plays over the film’s end credits, and also features on the Mt Zion soundtrack album, released by Sony Music New Zealand.

Mt Zion is a Small Axe Films production made in association with the New Zealand Film Commission, NZ On Air, Māori Television and Te Māngai Pāho and is distributed in New Zealand by Sony Pictures.
