News from NZ Police
The arrests of two men at about 11.20am on January 8 came about after information was passed to Police by a person who says they were earlier interfering with a vehicle.

Between them the men are now charged with being in possession of methamphetamine, a firearm and tools used to break into vehicles.

The witness says they were in the suburb of St Johns and managed to note down a registration number.

Shortly afterwards, the vehicle was noticed by an officer on Main Highway, Ellerslie and, when stopped and searched, it’s alleged a shotgun, methamphetamine, balaclavas and tools were located by Police.

Both men – a 25 year-old from Papatoetoe and a 32 year-old from Dannemora – appeared in the Auckland District Court on January 8 to face a range of charges and both were remanded on bail to reappear on January 29.

Glen Innes CIB staff say the arrests highlight the preventative value of people advising Police of suspicious behaviour.

“The witness’s information had a direct impact on the patrolling dog handler who was in the area and who initiated the vehicle stop. It just goes to show that you never know what the result will be if you take the time to act on suspicions and pass information to Police.”
