Press Release – NZ Bloodstock
The Hombre turned on an impressive front running display to win the $50,000 Listed Hallmark Stud Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Ellerslie today.

While Mae Jinx produced a tough performance, and added significant residual value to her resume, when she won the $50,000 Listed Berkley Stud Stakes (1200m) yesterday at Wingatui.

In a tactical front running ride by red-hot jockey Opie Bosson, The Hombre (Lucky Owners x Atlanta Belle) showed he is on the right track to improve on his second in this year’s edition of the Railway Stakes.

With the Railway Stakes set to be run in six days’ time at Ellerslie, The Hombre stacked up a handy field of sprinters and was able to shoot clear to win by three-and-a-half-lengths from Kitt Ann Miss (Rock of Gibraltar) and Taurus (No Excuse Needed).

Purchased by John Bary from Highview Stud at the 2008 Ready to Run Sale for $50,000, he has won close to $350,000 in his seven career wins to date.

Following the suggestion of owner Alan Galbraith to send Mae Jinx (Stravinsky x Gondolin) south for a crack at some valuable black-type, the six-year-old mare duly obliged holding on to win in robust fashion at Wingatui.

Sent straight to the front by jockey Lee Callaway who rated Mae Jinx perfectly, she kicked clear on the turn and had enough up her sleeve to hold on for a well deserved victory.

The fast finishing El Chico (Stravinsky) came from last to finish second with Pinsgold (Pins) in third.

Mae Jinx was offered at the 2008 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale by Rich Hill Stud.
