Driver cut from wreckage, seven critically injured after crash at Wellsford

A male driver cut from the wreckage has been airlifted to Auckland hospital after a two-car crash on State Highway 1, just past the gas station at Te Hana in the Rodney district.

All seven passengers of varying ages from both cars, have been transported to hospital in critical condition.

The crash occurred at about 12.35 pm.

The road was completely blocked. Diversions were in place at Mangawhai Rd (northbound) and Matheson Rd (southbound) The Police Serious Crash Unit is conducting the crash investigation.

In Taranaki, there has been a fatal crash on State Highway 3 just outside Normanby. Two people are cdead and another seriously injured in the crash between a van and four motorbikes on Ketemarae Road at around midday. Police were alerted at 12.04pm.

The seriously injured victim has been airlifted by helicopter to the Taranaki Base Hospital. Four others have been taken by ambulance to the same hospital with injuries ranging from serious to minor.
