News from NZ Police – December 17
Waitakere Police are requesting the public to delay all visits to Lake Wainamu at Bethells Beach for the next few days, while a search of the lake waters is in progress. The Police Dive Squad is at the lake searching for a 50 year old man who disappeared after an early morning swim on Sunday.

Police say they were notified at about 10.30am yesterday when friends and family noticed the man was not visible in the lake after they had returned to shore. His towel and keys remained untouched and there was no indication that he had returned to his vehicle in which they arrived earlier. A Police Search and Rescue team searched the surrounding lake area throughout yesterday without success.

The Police dive squad will appreciate the public staying clear of the lake and the surrounding area until their search is completed. This could take several days. A cordon exists at the lake. A sonar device may be required. The missing man is identified as:

Grant Robert Faulkner, born 24/02/1962 – Age 50 years
Resident of Bethells Beach – Married

Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of this missing man is urged to contact Henderson Police on 09 839 0600.
