First of all Auckland uni is institutionally autonomous and has the right to stay that way. Secondly, perhaps Joyce would do a better job by increasing overall funding at the university rather than abusing it by means of bureaucratic powers. Auckland uni’s subject rankings at QS have dropped year by year because of government funding shortage, and now the Ministry of Education threatens to shake the uni up once more by bad policy.
