A woman pedestrian is dead after she was hit by a car near the Great North Rd/West Coast Rd intersection at Glen Eden.

The accident occurred at about 8.05pm tonight.

Traffic diversions around the crash scene were at the Great North Rd/West Coast Rd intersection, and the Great North Rd/Titirangi Rd intersection.

Significant delays were expected and motorists were requested to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

The incident is being investigated by the Police Serious Crash Unit.
