Mill Road, Tötara Park, has been closed between Redoubt and Ranfurly Roads as police and emergency services deal with a fatal crash between a car and a truck that occurred at 3.23p.m.

The car occupants were initially trapped. One woman died at the scene and a second woman and two children, thought to be aged 12 and 18 months, have been taken to Middlemore Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.

The truck driver was not injured in the crash.

The serious crash unit has been called to the scene which is expected to remain closed for at least three hours.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area as some congestion is expected into the rush hour.
