Motorway traffic backs up after man refuses to come down from railing of Northcote Bridge

News from NZ Police at 7.18pm
Police have been speaking to a man on the Northcote bridge on the North Shore for the last twenty minutes. The man was standing on the railing of the bridge and refusing to come down despite pleas from Police.

Cordons were set up and motorway traffic had to be diverted for both north-bound and south-bound traffic causing a backlog.

He has now come down and is in custody.

Police were assisted by the man’s friend in talking him down from the bridge railing.

The traffic backlog is now clearing.

It’s so sad to see that people can get this low and see no way out .
