Press Release – Southside Arts Festival
The full list of the 44 acts taking part in Southside Arts Festival 2012 has been unveiled at an event hosted by the Mayor at the Auckland Town Hall.
This year’s festival line up is the largest in its five-year history and boasts a diverse programme including art, fashion, theatre, music and comedy performances.
“The fantastic line-up we have shows that Southside Arts Festival is fast-becoming a pivotal event on New Zealand’s artistic calendar,” says Len Brown.
“The cultural wealth of talent within Auckland is truly remarkable and is unique to the region, you can’t find it anywhere else in the world.”
A show-stopping performance by internationally acclaimed hip-hop dance crew ReQuest was the highlight of the event, led by choreographer-to-the-stars and local girl, Parris Goebel.
Twenty year-old Goebel, who grew up in Manukau and Howick, in the heart of the southside, is also the festival’s ambassador.
“Having someone of Parris’ calibre onboard shows that the festival is in good health and bigger and better than ever,” says the Mayor.
The month-long festival is on from October 12 to November 11 2012. It includes three cornerstone events – the Southside Gig, Cult Couture and the MIXER 3 concert.
