Waikato Police are investigating the sudden death of a five month old baby girl late last week. She was Shannon Lee Tai-Rakena of Hamilton.

“Shannon was taken to Waikato Hospital around 5pm on Thursday in a critical condition. Sadly she died around 11am the following day,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene of the Waikato CIB.

A post-mortem examination was carried out in Auckland on Saturday however results are not yet available. Baby Shannon’s death is still being treated as unexplained.

“Police have completed a scene examination of the girl’s house in East Hamilton and further enquiries into the circumstances surrounding her death are still underway.”
