Press Release – 26 for Babies
Jaquie Brown of TV show ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ led a flashmob of “…anyone who has a baby or has been a baby” in Britomart station to ride the trains on Friday morning. The group asked Aucklanders to “Get on Board” and support the extension of paid parental leave to 26 weeks.

The flash mob kicked off the Auckland ‘26 for Babies’ campaign and is hoping to generate support for it right in the heart of the city. Co-ordinated using Facebook, the flashmob started at 10am and participants were geared up in sunny yellow t-shirts with babies, balloons, and flyers galore.

The Bill to extend paid parental leave is currently at Select Committee and the group wants to remind people that this issue affects everyone –“…paid parental leave is about investing in our kids and ultimately New Zealand’s future.”The benefits of extending such leave would flow right through the community as well as enabling parents to spend precious time bonding with, and caring for, their newborn babies.

The Auckland ‘26 for Babies’ campaign will be working to encourage members of the public to make a submission on the benefits of theBill to ensure that all political parties “Get on board”and work together to make it a reality.
