Man critically injured in head-on crash at Netherton; SH2 closed by oil spill

News from NZ Police at 6.14pm
There has been a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 2 in the suburb of Netherton in the Hauraki District.

A male occupant in one of the vehicles has suffered critical injuries to his hip and is being attended to by Ambulance. He will be flown to the Waikato Hospital.

Both lanes of the highway are blocked. The accident scene is covered by a large amount of oil and is locked down.

Diversions are in place directing all north-bound traffic to turn right into Captain Cook Rd. South-bound traffic is being directed left into Wharepoa Rd.

Normal traffic flow is expected to resume in the next hour.
