Trouble at Waitangi: PM’s visit to lower marae cut short by noisy protestors

Auckland.Scoop
The Prime Minister has been forced to cut short his visit this morning to the lower marae at Waitangi. Radio New Zealand reports this was because protest action got too noisy.

The New Zealand Herald reports that the Prime Minister and other politicians were verbally abused by protestors “during ugly scenes.”

“The Treaty’s not for sale; you should be ashamed of yourselves,” chanted some of the protestors.

Mr Key said he cut short his visit because he could not be heard.

TV3 reports that 20 protestors charged towards the Prime Minister but were held back by Maori wardens. A cameraman was injured during the scuffle.

John Key says he is selling our land and assets to foreign companies because no one is telling him they do not want them sold. Well Mr. Key you may have just picked yourself a fight.

We as New Zealanders will stand together, we will all be there with bells and whistles on for the protest march to protect the assets, which are the security of our children, our grandchildren and our indigenous people.

However, then again judging by the deceitful way John Key is choosing to communicate with New Zealanders about the way he is financing NZ for the benefit of the wealthy, one has to ask: does he want a fight so he can unleash the police in full riot gear against the people?

Nothing would surprise me when it comes to John Key and the shadow men who support dealing dirty with the people who have built this country with their blood sweat and tears.

Well I can solve Margaret’s problem. She can rest easy – John Key is not saying he will be selling land and assets to foreign companies, at least in any direct sense. In fact nearly all the selling of land to foreign persons and companies is being sold by New Zealanders, the very New Zealanders who own the land they are selling.

Further it is average New Zealanders who are financing the wealthy in New Zealand and financing the foreign companies. For example every New Zealander could move their bank accounts to Kiwi Bank – but they don’t. A bunch will protest, will write to the paper and blog. But it is only so much rhetoric. It was the people of this country – not the bankers – who used their rising house prices to borrow and buy stuff from China, it was the people of this country – not John Key – who used the high NZ exchange rates to buy stuff from the Warehouse, those cheap as chips products from China.

But New Zealanders like to blame others for their problems when the answer is in their hands; they like the Government to solve their problems when the answers are in their own hands.

I see nothing wrong in the plan to sell shares in assets to re-purpose where the wealth of some New Zealanders – generally the older generations after working their whole lives – can be put, i.e. to allow that wealth to be re-used within NZ rather than borrowing from overseas.

I am not sure why people are happy to en-debt the country to overseas interests rather than than as I say above re-purpose the exiting wealth in NZ. It ends in the situation like Greece. The stakes are much higher.

@pclarebu. You are wrong. John Key is trying to maintain business acumen under guidelines that no longer exist – hence the downfall of the European and US state markets. NZers under the current regime have been forced to sell overseas. National are famous for their unethical sales of assets e.g. railways to name but one. And now we’re expected to trust ex staffers of merrill lynch to advance the financial position of the country when their failures are blatantly obvious!

China are motivated by the fact that we have a Treaty (ethnic balance) and you can ignore it but you will find that it is a result of being booted out of the alliances with US & UK that has forged our representation in the eastern marketplace. There is very little or no trust if we are to be realigned with America which JK is pressing. Yet again we will be minimised by being manipulated to follow a trading partner that has always managed to under deliver. [Abridged]
