BBG’s Shand moves on

March 31 (BusinessDesk) – One of the country’s most experienced public relations operatives, Greg Shand, is leaving Baldwin Boyle Group, the Auckland-based consultancy that handles Fonterra’s communications and reputation management.

Shand is relinquishing his shareholding in BBG after 25 years with the firm, which he joined while working in Singapore in 1986, prompting the normally low-key agency with a footprint through Australasia and South East Asia to issue a press statement.

Joining the firm as shareholders are former New Zealand Herald reporter Daniel Riordan, now managing director of BBG’s Thai office, and deputy managing director in New Zealand, Piet de Jong.

They join existing shareholders Brenda Baldwin (chair), Kylie Taylor, Graeme McMillan and Louise Nicholson as directors.

“During that time he has also played a significant role in growing Baldwin Boyle’s network throughout the Asia Pacific region,” said Baldwin. “He has been a great mentor to a number of the group’s professionals, which makes it very fitting that his shareholding is passing to a new generation of management.”

Shand was a prime mover behind such initiatives as the University of Auckland’s two Catching the Knowledge Wave conferences in the early 2000’s.

Latterly, he has worked behind the scenes on communications for the establishment of the Financial Markets Authority.
