A Service to express support for the people of Christchurch and Canterbury will be held tomorrow at 12:30pm in Auckland’s Anglican Cathedral.

The ecumenical service will be attended by leaders of city churches, the Mayor and local MPs. The service will include the national silence at 12:51pm to be followed by the National Anthem.

Services will be held at the same time in other Anglican Cathedrals including Napier and Taranaki.

In Wellington the bells of the Anglican Cathedral, which is opposite Parliament, will ring half muffled after the silence as a sign of respect for the dead. The tolling of the bells is part of the service on the steps of Parliament.
