To kick off the final month of his campaign, Auckland Council candidate Rob Thomas will be launching a new billboard on Ponsonby Road that talks back.

If you’re a new adopter of technology, there’s a likely chance you have a bluetooth enabled phone. Since the ban of talking on mobile devices while driving, bluetooth devices have become an increasingly popular hands-free option.

“Bluetooth is an emerging technology and it’s wonderful being able to trial this technology on my campaign,” says Rob.

If you’re standing near the billboard and your bluetooth device is switched on, you can choose to receive a campaign message from Rob. He is yet to disclose what the message from the billboard will say, apart from the fact it is “short and sweet”.

Throughout Rob’s campaign, he has used many useful technologies including a campaign intranet for his team to share files, sharing videos on youtube and advertising on facebook and google. Rob’s favourite device is his iphone which allows him to communicate directly with residents via his website and share images and videos.

“The new wards are so large, candidates need to stay connected with people. This is one way to do that.”

Despite all this new found technology, Rob says “Using new technology has been a key component of my campaign, but nothing beats meeting people face-to-face.”

Join Rob for his billboard launch Wednesday 1 September, 8pm at Chapel Bar on Ponsonby Road.
