On 1st April, Dan Ashby is set to take on the leadership of Hawkins Construction’s Auckland region as Don Young, long-time leader of Hawkins’ Auckland business, takes on a new National Operations Manager role prior to retirement at the end of the year.

Chris Hunter said: “Dan has been with us for a number of months now. He brings strong leadership credentials and an impressive track record at project and business level, both locally and internationally. He is a well-known, senior figure in the industry, having most recently spent five years leading Multiplex in New Zealand. He is a kiwi who has spent his whole life in construction and is passionate about NZ and the industry.”

“Dan’s approach is absolutely compatible with the Hawkins culture, philosophy and way of doing business. His skills are already adding a significant amount to our business and he will contribute strongly to Hawkins’ future growth and success.”

Dan Ashby said: “I am delighted to have joined the Hawkins team and to have the opportunity to contribute to the next stage of growth for the business. I have always admired the Hawkins approach to business – high integrity and high energy, based on an entrepreneurial spirit coupled with market leading construction capabilities and an appetite for innovation.

“Working with Don and the team over the last couple of months getting to know the business has only confirmed and strengthened this view. I look forward to building on the many successes achieved under Don’s many years of highly regarded leadership.”

Don now takes on a new role as National Operations Manager, reporting to Hawkins CEO Chris Hunter. The new role will have a core focus on project reviews, business mentor & coach, operations succession planning and bid & tender review work.

Chris Hunter said: “We welcome Don to his new role, knowing his contribution will provide a pathway for future leaders to advance their careers within the Hawkins team. He has been a strong member of our team for over 31 years, playing a significant role in building a strong team which has had many successes.”

Hawkins announced in November 2009 that Don Young had made the decision to retire at the end of 2010 and that Dan Ashby would join Hawkins.
